Addicted to Blogging

Blogging is such a funny thing. I’ve been blogging for work for about 2 years now. I sometimes struggle with writing this blog because I’m so used to blogging for my job, and there is just something you can’t say when working. It’s strange to me that I can write about whatever I’m thinking, and total strangers could be reading it. (I convince myself that they are not, it makes me feel better;0)

Â

I flip flop between not wanting to share stuff for fear of being embarrassed, to saying everything that pops in to my head (and probably offending someone).

Â

I’ve been reading others blogs for a few years now, and it seems like I know more about these people, and their lives than I do about very good friends. I read about their children, families, hobbies, and experience. I listen and grieve with them through hard times and get excited for them in good times. Many of these people I will never meet, and probably don’t even know I’m following along. Which brings me to another point; I love seeing so many people comment on others blogs, but I worry about intruding if I do. I know its not intruding if they put it out there for the world to see, but still it feels like voyeurism at its best.

Â

Lately a few of the blogs that I have read on a regular basis have been shut off, and I feel like I’ve lost a friend, how weird is that. When people go a long time without posting I feel some kind of with drawl. (I know sounds obsessive) It’s just like missing a friend.

Â

I know that some of the Utah bloggers get together from time to time, maybe I just need to get up enough courage to introduce myself and make some more friends online. The few times I have met people from online it has been great (not scary at all). When I got brave enough to post a comment on Isabel’s blog she realized that her and I had a connection from Seattle that we hadn’t know before. Like she said “we are practically related.”

Â

Those who know me will be surprised at how shy I really am (I can be quit a loud mouth in person). Blogging is great, I might be an addict, but I don’t watch to much TVÂ so everyone has to have one obsession. This just happens to be mine. Thanks to all the great witty bloggers out their that make the Internet a fun place to hang out.

Â

My assignment for the week: introduce myself to 2 new bloggers, and leave comments on their blog. (I’m starting small)

Â

What are your goals for the week?

Benefit Dinner

OK I’m finally able to let everyone know about the benefit dinner for Ben and his wife Megan. On Tuesday the 23rd (sorry about the late notice) at Biaggi’s Restaurant in Salt Lake city we will be having a benefit dinner. It will be from 4 until 10 o’clock, and the cost is only $10 a person. All proceeds will be going to Ben and his family to help cover medical expenses. If any of you have been to Biaggi’s before you know it is a fabulous restaurant and this price is a real steal. They will be serving Spaghetti Pomodoro, and a salad. Biaggi’s is located at the south east corner of the Gateway mall, and the address is 194 South 400 West.

We really appreciate every ones support, and hope so see a lot of people Tuesday night. Children are welcome, and this would be a great family night out or a date night for a worthy cause.

Â

PS we just got a phone call from a friend who won’t be able to make it but wanted to know how to send money. That is incredibly sweet. We have the most loving and generous friends around!

Not for the squeamish

OK so we just got back from St. George, and we had a great time all except the first night their. Now comes the disclaimer. If you have a weak stomach click away now.

Â

Really

Â

I mean it!

Â

OK anybody still with me?

Â

So my youngest son woke me up at 4 o’clock in the morning our first night in St George telling me that I needed to change his shirt. In my dazed stupor I asked him why what happened and then I smelt it, and didn’t need to wait for the answer. I staggered out of bed, and ushered him into the bathroom where I flipped on the light to discover that my fear was correct. My son was covered from his chin to his toes (no exaggerating) in POO! Not puke like you might have guessed POO. Really. and he’s almost 5! All I can guess is that he was REALLY REALLY asleep. Don’t worry, this is one thing I didn’t take pictures of.

Â

It took me an hour and a half to get him, the bathroom, and his bed cleaned up, and then two more days to completely get rid of the smell. By the way, sorry to the owner of the condo who probably would never rent to us again if he finds out what happened. I’m sure I cleaned and bleached away all the evidence.

Â

So what is the sickest thing your kids have ever done?

UEA Vacation

We are off on a much needed vaca to St George. Hope everyone has a great weekend. I’ll post pics when we get back.

Hiking Timp Cave

I came up with a brilliant plan to hike Timp Cave with my Cub scouts. It was a great plan in theory until 6:00 am when my alarm went off, and then it didn’t sound so fun.

We met at the church building early in the morning and headed up the canyon on our adventure. Lucky for me only 4 boys decided to roll their butts out of bed this morning other wise it could have been very ugly for Kama and I hiking up the trail with 12 eight year old boys.

As we got started I started to doubt that I was going to make it to the top with how out of shape I am. The trail is VERY steep, and is about 1 1/2 mile up. The elevation rises by about 1500 ft. I kept having to remind the boys to stay away from the edge.

Kama taught us all a cool trick. If you stand behind someone while going up hill and put 2 fingers on their back it makes it so much easier for them to hike up hill. You don’t need to push, so it isn’t a strain on you but it gives the other person a huge boost. The boys took turns trying it out, and couldn’t believe it really worked.

It took us about 1 to 1hour 15 minutes to get to the top. Not bad considering last year I took a group up and they only made it 2/3 the way up before 3 of them were whining that they were going to puke their guts out and we had to turn around and come back down.

When we got to the top we rested for 15 minutes and then our tour started. The guide was awesome, and let the boys help her guide the tour.

Here are some pics of our great adventure. Enjoy. Oh and by the way we made it all the way up and back down with out any bodily injury ;0) This is more than I can say for another group who had someone smack their head on a low rock in the cave that required a hospital trip and stitches. Yeah for us, no blood.

Wow it’s a long way down!

smDSC00109.jpg
By about here I thought I was going to die ;0)

smDSC00124.jpg
Yeah we made it to the top, and no one died.

Check out the elevation!

This was our awesome tour guide. She deserves a raise.

How awesome is this!

Trauma and Drama

Yesterday I got the pleasure of spending the whole day up at Cub scout day camp (I know me at day camp with the Cub scouts is pretty funny, but you can stop laughing now). Despite my fear, we had a great time and the camp is run really well. The boys seemed to enjoy themselves and were well behaved. I don’t know if having 16 young boys with fully loaded BB guns is the best idea, but we made it through with no bodily injuries.

Â

With two hours left to go in our wonderful adventure I get a phone call from my sister-in-law. This really puzzles me since she knows I’m in the mountains all day with 16 boys. I know she didn’t forget because I’ve got her son. So of course there isn’t enough reception up their to answer the phone so I went out to the parking lot (for better reception) and called my messages.

Â

Her message is a little frantic, and she is saying something about my mother-in-law (who is in the middle of chemo for breast cancer) and something about calling 911. Well now I’m totally panicking. I ran to the office and asked to use the emergency phone to call home.

Â

To make a long story a little shorter I find out that she had a seizure, hit her head pretty hard on the night stand, and bit through her lip requiring 4 stitches. She also had a second seizure on the way to the hospital but after a CAT scan she was cleared and headed home to rest.

Â

I was pretty worn out when I got home so I took a brief nap. Then had to run to my kids school for a back to school picnic in the middle of the worst storm I’ve seen in Utah since I moved here. We all got really soaked but they had fun so that’s all that matters.

Pioneer Day fatigue

Yesterday I decided that the perfect place to be on pioneer day is This is the Place Heritage park. We had a great time. The weather wasn’t to hot (clouds rolled in and gave much needed shade), there were lots of activities for the kids, but the crowds were horrible.

Â

It took us over an hour to get our lunch, and the kids whined that they were starving. I not so nicely explained that whining doesn’t make it come faster. The candy cannon totally made up for it. They launched massive amounts of candy out of a cannon 3 times that day, and the kids ran and grabbed what they could.

Â

After the park we went to a friends house for a BBQ. We BBQ-ed pizza. Yes you read that right, pizza. I had never heard of such a thing, but it was good. Everyone brought different pizza toppings, and we made mini pizza’s and cooked them over a fire, yummy.

Â

Late that night an insanely wealthy neighbor put on an amazing firework display that would rival the stadium of fire. We had front row seats off our balcony since he lives 2 streets below us. The fireworks were so loud we thought the windows would break.

Â

My nephew that is here for the summer couldn’t believe how big pioneer day is here. We had a blast, next year we will have to invite people over for our neighbors firework show ;0)

Â

*sorry this is a little old I was waiting to get the pictures. I need my own camera so I don’t have to keep borrowing Ash’s

Â

Â

Happy 4th of July

We are headed out for Stadium of Fire in a few minutes. Yet another thing I have never done.

We had a neighborhood BBQ/water party. They set up an adult water slide. It looked like tons of fun, but I’m sure my luck I would hurt myself if I tried it out, so I sat on the side lines and watched.

I’ll post pictures of the show when we get home. Hope everyone has a fun safe 4th.

WoW this was cool!

Manti here we come!

I am so excited, we are leaving in 2 hours to go to Manti to see the Mormon Miracle Pageant. I’m not from this area, so all these kind of things are new to me. I can’t believe how many cool LDS things there are to do around here. Ash can’t make it because he is backed up with work :0(Â I’ll try and post pictures if we get some good ones.

A Glorious Day at the Zoo

This morning I woke up and decided to sluff work, and hang out with my youngest at the zoo. I guess I feel a little guilty for working on the days that he doesn’t have school instead of spending time with him. He’s 4 now, and growing so quickly I know I won’t have many more carefree days at the zoo with him.

I have always stayed home with my kids, but my youngest doesn’t get as much quality time with me as my older two did. When I do find time to spend with him I feel a little distracted. Not today, we packed lunches, and headed for Salt Lake. We walked around for a while, and then ate lunch next to the zebra’s, and got ice cream afterwards. We rode the train and then headed for home. It was a great day!

Riding a rino

Our first family ride of the season

Yeah spring is here. Oh how I love the warm weather. (even if our unseasonably warm weather is only a brief tease) Warm weather brings many things that I love children’s laughter outside, flowers blooming, trips to the park for a picnic, but most of all it is the beginning of 4 wheeling season! We took our kids, and there cousins out to five mile for some fun family time tearing it up in the dirt. I was a little nervous about taking the cousins out because I was so sure they were going to hate it, but to my great surprise they loved it as much as my kids did. They got brief lessons on basic driving, and off they went like pro’s. By the end of the day one of them was riding by himself, and the next one was driving by himself with an adult on the back, just in case.
